Dirtfriend is my digital handle. I suppose it's a kind of digital pseudonym. This website is a kind of digital zine or a digital collection of memories, thoughts, habits and manifestations of nostalgia for my childhood and growing up in a country town. Recently I have been thinking a lot about my family and my hometown. Sometimes nostalgia is a nice feeling and sometimes it feels like a disease. Nostalgia can be a burden, like a ghost that haunts you. Wikipedia describes Hauntology as "...a range of ideas referring to the return or persistence of elements from the social or cultural past, as in the manner of a ghost." This is how I feel about my childhood. Although I have fond memories, sometimes I want to push them out of my mind. I use the webpage and other digital media platforms as a tool or vessel for narrative structure and poetic expression.
